Pick up Show and Share pictures and membership cards

Don't forget to pick up pictures of your Show and Share submissions plus your Membership Cards.  They are usually on tables at the back of the auditorium during the Guild meetings.  Jean Paton (photographer) and Jeannette Millar (Membership) put in a lot of effort to get these items ready for you.

February 2014 - Red Challenge

The submissions for the Red Challenge were amazing.  I was not surprised...we have so many talented and creative members who just love challenges.  The votes have been cast and the results will be revealed at the March meeting.  Here are just some examples of the submissions.

Second Scrap Queen Class

Karen Bright has arranged for a second Scrap Queen Class with Kelly Dumaresq.  The date is Tuesday June 3rd, 2014.  There are quite a few ladies already on the waiting list but there is still room for more participants.  If you are on the waiting list please contact Karen to confirm.

Quilt Show 2015 Raffle Quilt

Well the quilt has been mounted on a frame at Anne McKinnon's house and is being quilted by a group of very dedicated Guild members.  I spent an afternoon there a few weeks ago and found it most enjoyable.

The quilt is beautiful but it needs lots of quilting.  So if you are interested in being part of this project please contact Lorraine Roddy.

Sharon Galna - January 2014 Speaker

Sharon Galna presented her Inspiration & Design lecture and shared with us her sewing journey. The main take away from her talk was to use the colours you like and to incorporate various techniques to create your own unique designs. 

Place Mat Classes

From Karen Bright PLACEMATS, PLACEMATS, PLACEMATS Donna MacDonald is going to be holding classes to make place mats to replace our existing ones that are used during Pot Luck lunches. All we need from you is some time, energy and your sewing skills. There will be a sign up list available on the Workshop Board. This Session is AT NO CHARGE to you and is a good way to get together with fellow quilters and have some fun! Sign up now. The dates both Thursdays, are March 13th and April 10th Classes to be held at our usual spot

January 13, 2014: Trunk Show

What better way to start the New Year than with a little inspiration?  Sharon Galna from Ajax will share her love of quilting and design in a presentation called “ Inspiration and Design”. Sharon was taught to sew at the age of 11 by her mother. She started out by making simple garments and continued with her love of sewing throughout public and high school by making her own clothes.  She took that love of sewing to the next level by studying fashion design at college. It was while in college in 1983 that she made her first quilt to celebrate her grandparents’ 50th wedding anniversary and was immediately hooked.

She has had pieces juried into the Grand National Quilt Exhibition (2006, 2007, 2010).  Her work has also been shown at the Joseph Schneider Haus, the Oshawa Fibre Arts Show, the Visual Arts Centre of Clarington and the Mclean Community Centre, Ajax.

Sounds like this will be a great meeting.  Hope to see you all there.

FREE PLACE MAT CLASS
As per Donna MacDonald's  announcement at the December meeting place mat construction classes are being arranged for all members.  The goal is  to replace the present place mats used at our pot luck luncheons.  There is no cost to you, the Guild will supply everything except the sewing machines and labour.
The first class will be in January and there will be a class later in the spring.

December 2013 Christmas Pot Luck

The weather was a little stormy and icy, but we had a pretty good turn out for our annual Christmas Pot Luck Luncheon.  The food was amazing, the craft (a wreath made from Christmas patterned cotton strips) was fun to make, and the company and cheery conversation was great.  It was a good way to start the holiday season!!!!!
