September Speaker Elizabeth Dillinger

 Elizabeth Dillinger, our first speaker for the 2011-12 season wowed us with her amazing collection of art quilts. Elizabeth’s quilts are a combination of piecing and raw appliqué. Paints and dyes are used to paint fabrics allowing her to create the color of fabrics needed to match the digital image she has created. Elizabeth’s thread painting and freestyle quilting are done on domestic sewing machines. Her quilts have won Awards of Excellence and Viewers’ Choice in Canada. She has won several awards in the United States including 1st place at the International Quilt Festival, the largest annual quilt show in the world. Elizabeth has been featured in Quilters Newsletter, Quiltmaker and is a regular featured artist in A Needle Pulling Thread, a Canadian magazine.

Planning for the New Guild Season

Lorna Bawden-Smith held an executive meeting in August to start planning the new guild season.  Where did the summer go!!
Sharron  Coxon and her Program and Workshop Committee have held meetings to plan and get, for our members, interesting and informative speakers.   Plus great and fun workshops!!  We know they will not disappoint.
Eleanor Plewes is co-ordinating the 25th Anniversary Victorian Lunch in October and she has been busy holding meetings, planning menus, decorations etc.   It will be a day to remember!

I am looking forward to the 2011-2012 Guild meetings...I hope you are too.

It takes a good size group to keep the Guild running...

Show and Share June Meeting

President's RMH Donation nets $1,504.13

Our president Lorna Bawden-Smith chose RMH's  "A new Day is Dawning" drive as her campaign this year.  Her goal was to reach $1,500. from our monthly contributions.  She did it!!  She was able to give Brenda Dekoker, director of the RMH Foundation $1,504.13 at our June meeting.  Brenda gave us a interesting history of the need and the drive for this equipment, and was most appreciative of our donation.  Way to go Lorna!!

Raffle Quilt Nets $6,338.

We presented the Learning Disabilities Association with a cheque for $6,338.  This amount was generated by the sale of raffle tickets for our quilt.  What a great job done by our Guild.  To all the members who helped make the quilt and sell the tickets..thank you.  Great co-ordination job done Donna and Jean....all tickets sold...wow...hard shoes to fill next time!

Dresses for Haiti

Students from LCVI presented Gertie Ottens with a 115 sun dresses to augment her contributions to Haiti.  The event was co-ordinated by Jennifer Currie, overseer of the Guild's Helping Hands activities.  Thank you ladies for your contribution.

Pot Luck Luncheon

Our June Pot Luck Luncheon was a big success.  Good food, good friends, and great entertainment.  A wonderful way to end the season!!

What a show!!!

Sometimes you are proud to be part of something and then sometimes you are over the moon about being part of something.   I am totally over the moon about being part of this quilt show.   Our Guild displayed their talent in quilt making, hosting a fantastic tea room, presenting a wonderful Members Boutique, attracting a tremendous sampling of vendors, and selling a record number of tickets for our raffle quilt. What a great two days and what a wonderful membership we have.  Kudos to you Faye and your team of tireless workers!!!

Quilt Show Set Up

Today Guild volunteers headed to the Lindsay Curling Club to set up for our Quilt Show taking place this weekend.  So much work is needed to ensure the show looks great and will be enjoyed by all our visitors and our members.  From what I can see so far there are lots of beautiful quilts to view, tons of items in our boutique to buy, a great menu at the Tea Room, and lots of Vendors selling material and quilting items.  It will be a great show...the doors open at 10:00am Saturday and Sunday.
