Upcoming Programmes

Sue McConville has submitted the details about our spring programmes. Looking good!!!!

December 09, 2013:  Christmas Pot Luck:  The holidays roll around quickly!  Bring your favourite main course or dessert to share.  It’s a great time to meet new friends and catch up with those you know.

Please bring: your own plate, cutlery, a mug, a plastic bag to take home your dirty dishes and a small pair of craft scissors.

We have a great craft for you to complete as well.  Would you believe it contains over 14,000 strips of fabric?

January 13, 2014: Trunk Show:  What better way to start the New Year than with a little inspiration?  Sharon Galna from Ajax will share her love of quilting and design in a presentation called “ Inspiration and Design”. Sharon was taught to sew at the age of 11 by her mother. She started out by making simple garments and continued with her love of sewing throughout public and high school by making her own clothes.  She took that love of sewing to the next level by studying fashion design at college. It was while in college in 1983 that she made her first quilt to celebrate her grandparents’ 50th wedding anniversary and was immediately hooked.

She has had pieces juried into the Grand National Quilt Exhibition (2006, 2007, 2010).  Her work has also been shown at the Joseph Schneider Haus, the Oshawa Fibre Arts Show, the Visual Arts Centre of Clarington and the Mclean Community Centre, Ajax.

Jan Anderson - November Speaker

Jan Anderson returned!!!  This time this highly entertaining speaker showed us her unusual and beautiful take on quilting.  Her use of dyes, waxes, rust, etc. sure produced great stuff.  Also some of her exercises helped us warm up since the furnace was not working.

 Very fun and upbeat presentation.

Big Brothers and Sisters

Donna's charity this year is Big Brothers and Big Sisters of Kawartha Lakes - Haliburton Inc. This charity promotes and monitors long-term supportive friendships for children through quality relationships with caring adults. Jane and Jim from the organization spoke and encouraged our members get involved with the In-School Mentoring Program.  This program matches a child between the ages of 6 and 12 with an adult mentor. They meet once a week for one hour during school hours with the purpose of raising the child's self-confidence and self-esteem.  If you are interested contact their office at 117 Kent Street 705-324-6800.

Roger Kerr Foundation Piecing Workshops

Karen Bright sent in these pictures from the Roger Kerr October 29th and 30th workshop.  With the heating not working she said it was a little chilly...but they carried on like true quilters and created some wonderful looking designs.
